Weight loss occurs when an individual is in a negative energy balance. When the human body is giving out more energy in work and heat than it is gaining from food and other nutritional supplements, it will use stored reserve of fat or muscle.
Apart from improvement, some people seek weight loss in order to improve athletic performance, or to meet required weight classification to participate in a sport. However, others may be driven by achieving a more attractive body image.
